The FTI calls promote excellent research in Lower Austria. Funding is awarded through a competitive process by the Gesellschaft für Forschungsförderung Niederösterreich. This ensures a high quality of the funded projects and the best possible use of the available budget.

Since 2021, a total of 27 calls have been launched as part of the RTI Strategy of Lower Austria. Five further calls will follow in 2026 with a total volume of €8.48 million.

All calls are based on the fields of action of the RTI Strategy of Lower Austria 2027.

Detailed information on current calls for proposals can be found in the annual call program and in the submission system of the Gesellschaft für Forschungsförderung Niederösterreich.

In the first quarter, the call for RTI Projects: Basic Research within the RTI field of action “Society and Culture” will be opened for proposals. The call is endowed with €1,800,000.

In the second quarter, project proposals can be submitted for the call RTI Citizen Science, in which citizen scientists are actively involved as researchers. The call RTI Infrastructure has a budget of €1,800,000 and is open for submissions from all RTI fields of action in the third quarter. The funding of research infrastructures in the non-economic sector is intended to contribute to the sustainable expansion of research expertise in Lower Austria.

In the fourth quarter, the call RTI Projects: Applied Research in the RTI field of action “Digitization, Intelligent Production & Materials” with €1,800,000 will be opened. The call is aimed towards project proposals from research institutions in cooperation with commercial enterprises (both located in Lower Austria).
